As
we anticipate Thanksgiving Day, from year to year, our hearts
expectantly wait for some family gatherings. For the past ten
years, I have celebrated this special day here in the
U.S.A.
I found it could also be a time for serious spiritual
thinking, updating our stand in our faith in Christ: And so
turn this special occasion into a cause for deep focused
Prayers, Praises and Thanksgiving.
Psalm
22:3, says “But thou are Holy, O thou that inhabitest the
praises of
Israel
”
These
beautiful words are not my own, they are words from the Bible.
There are thousands others intently lodged between pages of
“The Good Book.” They all proclaim our dire need to
pray… and praise without ceasing.
As
in the book of Job 19:25 we too have to day, “For I know
that my redeemer liveth.”
Our
prayers to our living God, can be our gifts to Him. As we
present each daily gift, to Him they become a sign from the
heart, of our inexplicable gratitude. His unshakable
reassurance and eternal uplifting of His children in life, can
never be priced.
Jesus
proclaimed us in John 15:7, “If you abide in me and my words
abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be
done unto you.”
Here,
Jesus is motivating us “to stay and remain in touch with
Him” by being in touch through the Word.
With
this precious utterance Jesus constructed a strong foundation
for our prayers. So that God may listen to our prayers, we, as
God’s children, must permanently place God as the head of
our life.BUT HOW?
First
of all, we need to ask ourselves: “Am I a Christian who
walks by sight or by faith? Do I take God at His word, or do I
ask to see a sign in order to pray? In times of stress,
sickness or sorrow, do I wander at my own life, asking: “IS
GOD WITH ME? THEN WHY DO I FEEL ALONE?” So, we need to set
an appointed time each day in which to speak with Jesus in a
quiet atmosphere; to renew our schedule with God; be in the
right relation with Him, that in time of need God will look
our way with a fatherly recognition.
In
Psalm 18:6 the Psalmist says, “In my distress I called upon
the Lord, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his
temple, and my cry came before him, even unto his ears.”
God
deserves our early morning praises when the mind is rested,
and the day begins. God Holy Spirit in us will show us how to
pray simply and effectively.
I
recall a story about a little shepherd boy who, one Sunday
morning, heard the church bells ringing while he watched his
sheep. He saw people walk toward the church and desired to
communicate with God--but he had never learned a prayer.
So,
on bent knees, closed eyes and folded hands, the boy began to
recite the Alphabet--- A, B, C, D, all the way to the end. A
man passing by, hid behind the bushes to listen. As the boy
reached X, Y, Z, the man asked what he was doing.
“I
was praying, sir. I want God to take care of me. I don’t
know any prayer. I recited the Alphabet; and it is for God to
put the letters together and tell what I want to say.”
“Dear
Lord Jesus, you taught us to come to you in prayer with the
faith of a little child. Help us not to worry if we do not
know what to say. You Lord, can put our thoughts and feelings
together and send us the answer we need,” Amen
