Most
of our life we have been reading with great appreciation, the
Psalms of the Old Testament of the Bible. One
of King David's most cherished prayers of recognition and
thanksgiving to God is the eighth Psalm . When
praying this psalm as a lead for praise, we too can heartily
ascribe all glory and honor and greatness to God our Creator.
Those who interpreted the scriptures named this same
psalm as "Praying Our Creation." That
is very true.
In
Psalm 8: 4,5 (NIV) we are very proud to say, we can also find
our full worth as human beings. Who we
really are in God's sight is plainly stated
in these encouraging words: "What is
man that you are mindful of him and the son of man that you
care for him?. You made him a little lower than the heavenly
beings, and you crowned him with glory and honor!"
Is it then a wonder that the psalmist with his earthly
humility, found it hard to understand how our mighty God who
created the heavens and the stars would estimate us as a
little lower than the heavenly beings?
Through
this Psalm, our great Lord is wondrously teaching His beloved
children what real self esteem is all about. What
a great blessing it is for us in all walks of life to look
around and feel the divine attention totally accompanying the
presence of God in our daily life. Our senses testify to the
outstanding capacity with which God has endowed each person.
He promised to remain with us to help us overcome
whatever He has in His heart and plan for us to accomplish.
It is a very apparent fact. In the world we lean
trustfully on the enriching Bible truth that "Emmanuel"...God
is with us!
I
recall a vivid incident in my life which happened in
Africa
the summer of 1980. My daughter and I, were
scheduled to travel to
Great Britain
to attend a powerful Christian Conference. Traveling
regulations stressed the intent need to be vaccinated against
Cholera before departure. At the clinic, we were informed of a
shortage of that vaccine. "I regret to tell you, we only
have two dozens left; these are reserved for Diplomats,"
reported the doctor on duty. Having heard this discouraging
report, I completely refused to accept it.
Like
Nehemiah, I bowed my head in a fervent silent prayer to God. Instantly!
I was reminded that a few months before, I had a chance to
witness about Jesus Christ to this same Muslim doctor.
Courageously, I took out the KJV Bible I always carried with
me. Opening it on 2 Corinthians 5:20 I read out loud,
"Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ as though God
did beseech you by us," After
hearing me, the doctor asked, "and may I know, to whom
these words are addressed?" "These
are the words of the Bible to us, the followers of the Lord
Jesus Christ, because we serve God." With
a pounding heart, I also explained that my daughter and I MUST
travel to
Britain
for a very important conference. The doctor's smile broadened
genially, as he motioned to his nurse to proceed. I gave all
the Glory to God when they used those two remaining shots for
us.
Romans
8:31 (NIV) says: "What then shall we say in response to
all this? If God is for us, who then can be
against us" This SPECIAL month
of Awareness, let there be a full song of joy in our human
hearts for who we truly are in the light of God's fatherly
love and care. Amen
