Tavonga Mac-1 is a recording artist who has been doing music dating back as far as 1995,
He fell in love with music with the aid of his parents who were both teachers at
Sacred Heart Primary School in Gokwe a remote growth point in the Matebeleland province of Zimbabwe and were both music coaches. At a tender Of 7, Tavonga ‘Mac-1’ Chikwava was playing percussion drums (djembe) for the school’s traditional Dance Group. At the age of 12 Mac-1 was writing songs though of a minor Nature. The passion for more creative sound making grew and that graduated into a rhythm of the heart.
The year 2008 saw him move to Capetown, South Africa, where he met with Producer and Song writer, Wayne “Mr Wyne” Muyambo who introduced MacOne to a Nigerian music promoter and sponsor, Don Dennis. This later saw him being under the lable DonDennis Records co-signed to Solidridge Ent which was solely owned and run by Mr Wyne. That era saw the dawn of a group called the Young Hustlaz and they did a few singles together, though it was short lived. During this time he recorded his first House single tittled Africa with former highschool mate and long time friend and producer Ivan “IXD” Mudhaya with his stable Generation-X. Also recorded was a hiphop single which found its way to The World Tour Vol-1 which was a project rolled out by the then G-Records under the supervison of Tatenda “Klassiq” Chideme.
He moved back to Zimbabwe in December of the year 2011 for further studies. Enrolled at Harare Polytechnic to study Valuation and Estate management where he completed certificate level and the year 2013 saw him become a stable member of the label Rehab Ent which was an estlablishement led by producer Alexander “Anonzi Xndr” Mutumha. It was this this time he met to be seasoned game changing producer, Tapiwa “YoungNash” Nyagwaya. And it was this time when he established his love for House Music as a genre and together they worked on an 11 track album titled Made In Africa which then became his group name teaming up with the International Award winning DJ Farai “Phatbeatz” Chamatowa, which was bound to be released in the USA at the world renowned Winter Music Conference which happens annually in Miami USA. The journey and event did not materialise as hoped for.
Same year 2013 as Made In Africa, MacOne and DJ Phatbeatz shot a high budget video of one of their singles from the album titled Celebrate which never saw the light of day due to unforseen reasons. Refocusing on life saw the group disband unofficially killing the vision along with it. MacOne then regained his strength and decided to work on his own project which its first offering was released on the 12th of May 2017. Having met with Producer and Songwritter Jonathan “J Dot” Hunda, MacOne has since been working on a new project which will see the release of more House Music mostly Gospel for it is his newly found love contextually, but his first offering from the new project is a social commentary single tittled Kutsvaga Mari. On this single MacOne worked with J Dot and featured Mr Noxxa of TMG records, Sharky of the Soko Matemai fame and rapper iZarr. This high energy single which comments on the issue of hustling and partying being interlinked facets of life and taking the chance to warn people from losing morals because of the love of money. The year 2019 Tavonga ‘Mac-1’ moved to Canada, there meeting Teddy Nyakudyara who is a Talent scout. Their meeting has opened various platforms such as African Festival Ottawa, Nuit De Afrique Cabaret which have seen the boundless repertoire of Tavonga Mac-1’s catalogue that is paralleled only by the breadth of media palpable in his work.
